The Dynamics of Abell 2125
We present 371 galaxy velocities in the field of the very rich cluster Abell
2125 (z~0.25). These were determined using optical spectroscopy collected over
several years from both the WIYN 3.5m telescope and NOAO Mayall 4m telescope.
Prior studies at a variety of wavelengths (radio, optical, and X-ray) have
indicated that A2125 is a likely cluster-cluster merger, a scenario which we
are able to test using our large velocity database. We identified 224 cluster
galaxies, which were subjected to a broad range of statistical tests using both
positional and velocity information to evaluate the cluster dynamics and
substructure. The tests confirmed the presence of substructures within the
Abell 2125 system at high significance, demonstrating that A2125 is a complex
dynamical system. Comparison of the test results with existing simulations
strengthens the merger hypothesis, and provides clues about the merger geometry
and stage. The merger model for the system can reconcile A2125's low X-ray
temperature and luminosity with its apparently high richness, and might also
explain A2125's high fraction of active galaxies identified in prior radio and

Broadband matched-field processing: coherent and incoherent approaches
Matched-field based methods always involve the comparison of the output of a physical model and the actual data. The method of comparison and the nature of the data varies according to the problem at hand, but the result becomes always largely conditioned by the accurateness of the physical model and the amount of data available. The usage of broadband methods has become a widely used approach to increase the amount of data and to stabilize the estimation process. Due to the difficulties to accurately predict the phase of the acoustic field the problem whether the information should be coherently or incoherently combined across frequency has been an open debate in the last years. This paper provides a data consistent model for the observed signal, formed by a deterministic channel structure multiplied by a perturbation random factor plus noise. The cross-frequency channel structure and the decorrelation of the perturbation random factor are shown to be the main causes of processor performance degradation. Different Bartlett processors, such as the incoherent processor [Baggeroer et al., J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 80, 571-587 (1988)], the coherent normalized processor [Z.-H. Michalopoulou, IEEE J. Ocean Eng. 21, 384-392 (1996)] and the matched-phase processor [Orris et al., J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 107, 2563-2375 (2000)], are reviewed and compared to the proposed cross-frequency incoherent processor. It is analytically shown that the proposed processor has the same performance as the matched-phase processor at the maximum of the ambiguity surface, without the need for estimating the phase terms and thus having an extremely low computational cost. Constraints on UV Absorption in the Intracluster Medium of Abell 1030
We present results from an extensive HST spectroscopic search for UV
absorption lines in the spectrum of the quasar B2~1028+313, which is associated
with the central dominant galaxy in the cluster Abell~1030 (). This is
one of the brightest known UV continuum sources located in a cluster, and
therefore provides an ideal opportunity to obtain stringent constraints on the
column densities of any cool absorbing gas that may be associated with the
intracluster medium (ICM). Our HST spectra were obtained with the FOS and GHRS,
and provide continuous coverage at rest-frame wavelengths from to
4060~\AA, thereby allowing the investigation of many different elements and
ionization levels. We utilize a new technique that involves simultaneous
fitting of large numbers of different transitions for each species, thereby
yielding more robust constraints on column densities than can be obtained from
a single transition. This method yields upper limits of cm on the column densities of a wide range of molecular, atomic
and ionized species that may be associated with the ICM. We also discuss a
possible \Lya and C IV absorption system associated with the quasar. We discuss
the implications of the upper limits on cool intracluster gas in the context of

On the Dalitz Plot Approach in Non-leptonic Charm Meson Decays
We claim that the non-resonant contribution to non-leptonic charm meson
decays may not be constant in the phase space of the reaction. We argue that

The Cluster of Galaxies Surrounding Cygnus A
We report optical imaging and spectroscopy of 41 galaxies in a 22 arcmin
square region surrounding Cygnus A. The results show that there is an extensive
rich cluster associated with Cygnus A of Abell richness at least 1 and possibly
as high as 4. The velocity histogram has two peaks, one centered on Cygnus A,
and a more significant peak redshifted by about 2060 km/s from the velocity of
Cygnus A. The dynamical centroid of the spatial distribution is also shifted
somewhat to the NW. However, statistical tests show only weak evidence that
there are two distinct clusters. The entire system has a velocity dispersion of
1581 km/s which is slightly larger than other, well studied, examples of rich

How U.S. Ocean Policy and Market Power Can Reform the Coral Reef Wildlife Trade
As the worldâs largest importer of marine ornamental species for the aquaria, curio, home dĂ©cor, and jewelry industries, the United States has an opportunity to leverage its considerable market power to promote more sustainable trade and reduce the effects of ornamental trade stress on coral reefs worldwide. Evidence indicates that collection of some coral reef animals for these trades has caused virtual elimination of local populations, major changes in age structure, and promotion of collection practices that destroy reef habitats. Management and enforcement of collection activities in major source countries such as Indonesia and the Philippines remain weak. Strengthening US trade laws and enforcement capabilities combined with increasing consumer and industry demand for responsible conservation can create strong incentives for improving management in source countries. This is particularly important in light of the March 2010 failure of the parties to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) to take action on key groups of corals
Beings in their own right? Exploring Children and young people's sibling and twin relationships in the Minority World
This paper examines the contributions that the sociological study of sibship and twinship in the Minority World can make to childhood studies. It argues that, in providing one forum within which to explore children and young people's social relationships, we can add to our understanding of children and young people's interdependence and develop a more nuanced understanding of agency. As emergent subjects, children, young people and adults are in a process of âbecomingâ. However, this does not mean that they can âbecomeâ anything they choose to. The notion of negotiated interdependence (Punch 2002) is useful in helping us to grasp the contingent nature of children and young people's agency
Near-Infrared Survey and Photometric Redshifts in the Extended GOODS-North field
We present deep and -band images in the extended Great Observatories
Origins Deep Survey-North (GOODS-N) field covering an area of 0.22
. The observations were taken using WIRCam on the 3.6-m Canada
France Hawaii Telescope (CFHT). Together with the reprocessed -band
image, the limiting AB magnitudes (in 2" diameter apertures) are
24.7, 24.2, and 24.4 AB mag in the , , and bands,
respectively. We also release a multi-band photometry and photometric redshift
catalog containing 93598 sources. For non-X-ray sources, we obtained a
photometric redshift accuracy with an outlier
fraction . For X-ray sources, which are mainly active galactic
nuclei (AGNs), we cross-matched our catalog with the updated 2M-CDFN X-ray
catalog from Xue et al. (2016) and found that 658 out of 683 X-ray sources have
counterparts. UV data are included in the photometric redshift
computation for the X-ray sources to give with
. Our approach yields more accurate photometric redshift estimates
compared to previous works in this field. In particular, by adopting AGN-galaxy
hybrid templates, our approach delivers photometric redshifts for the X-ray
counterparts with fewer outliers compared to the 3D-HST catalog, which fit
these sources with galaxy-only templates
